The
participants of the round table discussion debated issues connected with women
migration, conditions of female immigrants in the European countries, their
communication with the families, problems of female refugees in Ukraine,
gender-based violence towards female immigrants, inclusion of the gender-based
aspect into the formation of immigrant reintegration action plans, and
formation of the migration policy in Ukraine.
Oleh Zarubinskyi, Committee Chairman, opened the meeting and briefed on the active process of migration policy in Ukraine. The People´s Deputy stressed that The Verkhovna Rada was scrutinizing fundamental laws on migration.
The Committee Chairman deems necessary to focus on the most important notions caused by uncontrolled migration. It concerns influence of immigration on the institute of family, on the children left without parental care and upbringing (‘social orphanhood´), and the status of Ukrainian immigrants abroad.
The participants of the round table discussion singled out the following pressing issues: the status of illegal female immigrants in the European countries; problems of Ukrainian female immigrants in certain countries, esp. Greece and Poland; domestic violence; issues of immigrants´ families; inclusion of the gender-based aspect into the formation of immigrant reintegration action plans, and formation of the migration policy in Ukraine, etc.
The reporters drew attention to the growing number of female immigrants who migrate on their own. It calls forth the conclusions about the feminization of migration and necessity of minimizing negative consequences of female immigration.
The round table discussion was organized by the parliamentary committee jointly with the European Committee on Migration, Program of Assistance to the Parliament of Ukraine and The the International Women´s Rights Center "La Strada Ukraine."
